Surviving my second podcast

You have to spill some beans to make a good coffee conversation

My first podcast experience was different than my second. I’ve known the host of the first podcast for more than a decade. We worked together at a previous company. It was easy to get engrossed in the conversation just enjoying the nostalgia of shared memories from the amazingly talented team we worked on. Even though I was terrified of the thought of being on a podcast, it was like having a fun coffee conversation with a good friend you hadn’t seen or spoken with in several years.

I blogged about my first every podcast experience here.

My second podcast was with someone I have never met before, named Jim Grisanzio, who works on the Oracle Java Developer Relations team. I’ve listened to other podcasts Jim has recorded for the Duke’s Corner series, and very much enjoyed them. I know several of the speakers who have previously had conversations on this podcast series. It was hard for me to comprehend what I would have to offer an audience who were accustomed to such amazing speakers.

I’ve done some interesting things during my career and life. I am doggedly persistent and consistent about a few things. I love telling stories, and can sometimes seem to get lost in the storytelling. I can spin up multiple story threads, and then have to find a join point where I finally find my way back to completing the original story. This is why I generally prefer writing as a medium. There is ahead of time compilation. I can sort things out without exposing the reader to my sometimes complex thought process. The just in time compiler I use for speaking can sometimes seem like it gets lost in time. I digress. Get to the point already.

Jim found something I said in our conversation, and made it the title of the podcast.

Unlimited, Untapped Resources

I couldn’t believe I said something like this, so I had to listen to the podcast, and lo and behold I actually did. I guess this is what happens when you are spilling some beans in a fun coffee conversation. Thanks for the great conversation, Jim!

Below is a link to the podcast. I hope you enjoy it!

Be sure to check out the other forty something podcasts Jim has recorded with amazing speakers over the years! Thanks!
